Terms of Service
The agreement, in plain language
Setting Della up means changing a setting on a phone that probably isn't yours. That's the unusual part of this agreement, so it comes first.
You are confirming you may do this
Della works by changing a call-forwarding setting on your parent’s phone line. By setting her up you confirm that:
- You have your parent’s permission, or the legal authority, to configure that line.
- You have told them Della will answer unknown callers and record those calls.
- You will stop using Della on that line if they ask you to.
We record when you confirm this. It matters because your parent will be asked to agree out loud during setup — and if they don’t, setup doesn’t finish. Their answer overrides yours.
You must be eighteen or older, and Della is available in the United States only.
What Della does
She answers calls your parent’s phone doesn’t, asks who is calling and why, and decides whether to put them through, take a message, or turn them away. She matches what she hears against known scam patterns, tells you what happened, and learns from your corrections.
What Della is not
She is not a guarantee against fraud. She is a receptionist who is very good at recognising a script. A caller with an approach she hasn’t seen may get a message taken instead of being turned away, and your parent may still be reached by mail, email, a knock at the door, or a number already in her contacts.
We publish the measured numbers rather than a promise: under 2% of screened calls are legitimate callers wrongly turned away, and she knows eight scam patterns today.
- Not an emergency service. Della cannot call 911 and is not a medical alert device. She never hard-declines a caller claiming a medical emergency, but she is not a substitute for one.
- Not medical or financial advice. She makes no judgements of that kind and holds no view on your parent’s health or money.
- Not a voicemail replacement you should rely on absolutely. If our service is unavailable, forwarded calls fall back to a plain voicemail message. Carriers, networks and vendors all have outages, and we don’t control them.
Money
- $19 a month per protected line, or $180 a year. Two lines are $29 a month.
- Thirty-day trial. A card is required to start, and nothing is charged until the trial ends. Cancel before then and you pay nothing.
- Cancel any time, from the billing page in your account. You keep protection until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- If a payment fails, we’ll email you and keep your parent protected for seven days while you fix it. We are not going to switch off someone’s phone screening over an expired card.
Using Della properly
Don’t use her to:
- Record someone who has not been told — which, since she announces herself in her first sentence, mostly means don’t try to defeat that disclosure.
- Monitor an adult who has not agreed to it.
- Screen a line you have no authority over.
- Make outbound calls of any kind. She only answers.
We may suspend an account being used this way, and we’ll tell you why.
Your data, and ours
The recordings, transcripts and contacts belong to your family. We hold them to run the service, and we delete them when you tell us to or thirty days after you cancel — see the privacy policy.
We do use your corrections — the calls you mark as wrongly judged — to improve Della’s accuracy for everyone. That work uses the decision and the pattern, not your parent’s identity or the audio of their friends.
Della’s software, her voice and her name are ours. Using the service doesn’t transfer any of that to you.
Liability, honestly stated
Della is provided as-is. We work hard on her accuracy and publish what we measure, but we can’t promise she will catch every scam or never make a mistake.
If something goes wrong and we are at fault, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. That is the ordinary limit for a service at this price, and we’d rather state it plainly here than bury it in capitals.
Some states don’t allow certain limits to be excluded, so if yours doesn’t, that part simply doesn’t apply to you.
Changes and endings
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll email you before it takes effect, and continuing to use Della afterwards means you accept it. You can close your account at any time; we can close yours for the misuse described above, or with thirty days’ notice if we stop offering the service.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
These terms are written to be understood. If anything here is unclear, email hello@della.family and ask — we'd rather explain it than have you agree to something you didn't follow.
